Twisters (2024)

I finally watched Twisters in IMAX, the legacy sequel to the 90s classic "Twister," and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The film follows Kate Cooper, played by Daisy Edgar-Jones, a scientist and meteorologist who has a plan to stop tornadoes. After a personal tragedy, she ends up at a desk job but gets pulled back into the action by her old friend Javi, portrayed by Anthony Ramos. Their storm-chasing adventures are thrilling and intense, with some serious competition from Glenn Powell's character, Tyler Owens, a YouTube sensation with a flair for the dramatic.

The characters really brought the story to life. Edgar-Jones is fantastic as the determined Kate, and her journey from dealing with past trauma to rediscovering her passion is engaging. Ramos adds depth as Javi, struggling with his own moral dilemmas. But the standout for me was Powell, who brings so much charm and humour to his role as the cowboy-like Tyler. He's really great at playing a likeable douchebag. The interactions between these characters, especially the dynamic between Kate and Tyler, added a lot of heart to the film.

Visually, this film is stunning. The tornado scenes are breathtaking, making you feel like you're right in the middle of the action. The special effects and sound design are phenomenal - loud and booming, they truly enhance the experience. The screenplay is fantastic, though some of the dialogue felt a bit awkward at times. Dan Mindel's cinematography is breathtaking, with some scenes reminiscent of "NOPE." Great performances all around, and I'm already downloading the soundtrack Despite its minor flaws, Twisters is a fun, entertaining ride that fans of the original and newcomers alike will enjoy. Amazing film all around!
