Evil Dead Rise

(Non-Spoiler Review)

SYNOPSIS:

Two sisters find an ancient book that gives birth to bloodthirsty demons that run amok in a Los Angeles apartment building and thrusts them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

Ever since I saw Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films, I have been a fan of the franchise. I even enjoyed the take of Fred Alvez’s Evil Dead in 2013, so when a new movie was announced, I was really looking forward to it.

The initial trailer got me intrigued about this new take and after watching Evil Dead Rise, I can easily say it was a good watch. The horror is decently done, filled with gory details and the story is very simple but it keeps you invested. The performances of Lily Sullivan (Beth) and Alyssa Sutherland (Ellie) stood out while the child actors provided great support.

The Cinematography and VFX were good but I found the editing to be jarring sometimes and the Colour Grade is very generic to some recent horror films. The thing that really impressed me was the sound design - it was superb!

TSHC SCORE: 7.5/10

Conclusion:

Evil Dead Rise is a great watch that keeps you engaged throughout the whole movie, with great performances by the cast and an impressive sound design.
