PLAYED ON: PC via Steam

Also available on Game Pass, Xbox, PlayStation & Nintendo Switch

A new year is here and it’s time for a new indie game!

If you're a fan of cozy atmospheres, heart-to-heart conversations, and a dash of fantasy, then Coffee Talk Episode 2 is a delightful continuation of the series that warms your virtual coffee mug. As someone who thoroughly enjoyed the first episode, I eagerly dived into this sequel with high expectations and was very pleased with the whole experience (again!).

One of the standout features of this game is the continuation of its unique narrative style. The game brilliantly connects the stories that explore the lives, relationships, and struggles of its diverse cast of characters. Much like the first episode, the strength of this game lies in its ability to make you feel connected to the characters through engaging and relatable dialogues.

The pixel art style remains a charming element that adds to the overall cozy atmosphere of the game. The visuals create a warm and inviting space, perfect for immersing yourself in the coffee shop setting. The attention to detail in character expressions and environmental design adds an extra layer to the narrative, making it visually appealing.

The soundtrack of Coffee Talk Episode 2 deserves special mention. The calming tunes and jazzy melodies complement the game's ambience, enhancing the overall experience. The music not only sets the mood but also manages to stay in your head even after you've put down the controller. I had a great time showing off my artistic side with the latte art and jamming to the game’s music in the background.

I felt the pacing was a bit uneven at times, with certain moments feeling rushed, while others lingered a tad too long. This inconsistency in pacing might leave some of you feeling a bit disconnected from the overarching story.

Additionally, while the game successfully introduces new characters and storylines, it doesn't delve as deep into certain narrative arcs as I had hoped. Some characters' stories feel underexplored, leaving me craving for more.

TSHC Score: 7.5/10

Conclusion:

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly is an enjoyable experience overall. It successfully maintains the charm and warmth of its predecessor, delivering a narrative-driven game that feels like a comforting cup of coffee on a rainy day. It might not be a perfect blend, but it certainly offers a satisfying and heartwarming experience for those who enjoy narrative-driven games with a side of fantasy and a splash of coffee!
